Blue Jays' Bichette placed on IL with fractured finger
The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette on the injured list with a fractured finger, the club announced Thursday.
Bichette returned Tuesday from a calf strain that sidelined him for two months and appeared in one game before getting hurt again.
The 26-year-old was injured when he took a ground ball off his finger during pregame warmups Wednesday. He will see a specialist to determine the best course of action, according to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae.
The two-time All-Star will finish his injury-riddled 2024 campaign with a dismal .599 OPS in 81 games. He hit just four home runs and posted career lows in every meaningful offensive category.
Toronto recalled outfielder Jonatan Clase, its No. 6-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, in a corresponding move. Clase was acquired in the trade that sent Yimi García to the Seattle Mariners.
The Blue Jays entered Thursday last in the AL East.
