Marlins' Chisholm calls for robot umps after strike call

Miami Marlins outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was frustrated after he was rung up for strike three by home plate umpire Rob Drake on a pitch that was well outside the zone during Monday's game against the New York Mets.

Chisholm posted a robot emoji on X following Miami's 6-4 loss, indicating his preference for an automated strike zone.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said during last week's All-Star break that an automated strike zone could be a possibility by the 2026 season. The league plans to test it during spring training before determining if it will implement the system for regular-season games.

The system has been in place at Triple-A since the start of the 2022 season. Umpires are still present behind the plate, determining balls and strikes. However, teams are given the opportunity to challenge those calls with high-speed cameras capturing the correct location of the pitch and determining if the call will be upheld or overturned.
