New York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes took aim at the team's critics in in a post on X during Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game.
"Everyone talks down about the Yanks but they wanna be us," Cortes wrote. "It’s a privilege to wear pinstripes. Every year we are in contention. I’m blessed to be able to compete for a playoff spot and always be contenders at the end."
The Yankees entered the All-Star break having lost eight of 12 games in July and are 18-21 since the beginning of June. New York took two of three games from the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend to cut the deficit in the AL East to one game.
Cortes is 4-8 with a 3.67 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 110 strikeouts across 115 1/3 innings this season.
