Yankees move Rizzo to 60-day IL with fractured forearm

The New York Yankees transferred Anthony Rizzo to the 60-day injured list, the club announced Wednesday.

Rizzo is expected to miss about eight weeks of action.

The veteran suffered a fractured right forearm when he collided with Boston Red Sox pitcher Brennan Bernardino at first base while attempting to beat out a ground ball during Sunday's game.

Rizzo, 34, had been scuffling at the plate before getting hurt. The three-time All-Star is hitting .223/.289/.341 with eight home runs across 70 games.

The Yankees called up 25-year-old first baseman Ben Rice from the minors to replace Rizzo. The left-handed hitting Rice owns a .275/.393/.532 slash line with 15 homers and 36 RBIs in 60 minor-league games this season.
