Braves' Olson frustrated with offensive struggles: 'Not playing like we can'
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson is growing frustrated with the club's recent struggles at the plate.
"We're not playing like we can and we should," Olson said Friday, per MLB.com's Mark Bowman. "There's little things, like second and third with nobody out, and we don't get a run in. I've got to do a better job with the infield back. That should be a run every time."
The Braves mustered just one run on six hits in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Washington Nationals. Atlanta is 5-6 since star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. sustained a season-ending knee injury on May 26.
The Braves are 18th in runs scored, 17th in home runs, and 13th in wRC+ this season after ranking first in all three categories in 2023.
Braves manager Brian Snitker remains confident in the track record of his roster to start performing sooner rather than later.
"These are all really good baseball players," Snitker said. "They've all hit, and they will again."
The Braves continue their four-game series in Washington on Saturday afternoon.
