The Detroit Tigers are optioning struggling first baseman Spencer Torkelson to Triple-A, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The Tigers will reportedly promote third baseman Justyn-Henry Malloy in a corresponding move.
Torkelson has struggled at the plate this season, slashing .201/.266/.330 with four home runs, 18 RBIs, and 56 strikeouts in 54 games.
The 24-year-old hasn't been able to build on a 2023 campaign in which he hit 31 homers and drove in 94 runs across 159 games.
The Tigers also optioned Torkelson during his rookie campaign in 2022. He finished that season hitting .203 with eight home runs.
Malloy, 24, has posted an .883 OPS with six home runs and 27 RBIs at Triple-A this season.
