San Francisco Giants left-hander Blake Snell was forced to leave Sunday's start against the New York Yankees in the fifth inning with groin tightness, the club announced.

Snell was pulled in the middle of an at-bat against Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo with the bases loaded and went straight down the tunnel to the clubhouse. Verdugo promptly doubled in a pair of runs off left-hander Erik Miller, who came on in relief of Snell.
"It's definitely a bummer," Snell said, according to NBC Sports. "Frustrating, but gotta look on to what's next, attack that and get better, and get back on the field."
Snell will undergo an MRI scan Monday, Giants manager Bob Melvin said postgame.
Snell was sidelined from April 24 to May 22 with a left adductor strain.
The two-time Cy Young winner has struggled since joining the Giants on a two-year, $62-million contract in March. The 31-year-old owns an 0-3 record with an 8.75 ERA, 1.94 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts across 23 2/3 innings.
Snell recently said he regretted not signing earlier in the offseason and that spring training is crucial for major-league players to be ready to perform early in the season.
