Mets' Lindor: 'I've got to do a better job' amid losing streak
New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor held himself accountable following Saturday's 7-2 extra-innings loss to the San Francisco Giants.
The Mets entered the ninth inning with a 2-1 lead, but closer Edwin Díaz blew his third consecutive save opportunity. The Giants then rallied for five runs in the 10th with the help of an errant throw Lindor couldn't corral.
"This is not just (Díaz), this is not falling on him. It's on every one of us; we've got to play the game better," Lindor said, according to SNY.
"Overall, I've got to do a better job," he added. "We've all got to do a better job."
The Mets have lost five straight games. They're nine games under .500 after dropping 22 of their last 31 contests.
Lindor, a four-time All-Star, is one of several Mets slumping at the plate to start the season. He's posted a .209/.279/.369 slash line and failed to deliver a potential game-winning hit in the ninth inning.
"It's not about team meetings. It's not about rah-rah. It's about getting it done," Lindor said, per Tim Healey of Newsday Sports.
The Mets will look to salvage the third and final game in their series against the Giants on Sunday afternoon.
