Montas was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm contusion Monday, the team announced.
The 31-year-old is in his first season with the Reds after signing a one-year, $14-million contract in the offseason. Montas is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts across 19 1/3 innings.
Meanwhile, right-hander Casey Legumina was recalled to take Montas' spot on the active roster.
