Guardians acquire Florial from Yankees for Morris

The Cleveland Guardians acquired outfielder Estevan Florial from the New York Yankees for right-handed reliever Cody Morris, the clubs announced Tuesday.

Florial, 26, made 19 appearances for the Yankees in 2023, slashing .230/.324/.311 with three doubles and eight RBIs. He excelled at Triple-A, hitting 28 home runs with a .945 OPS, 25 stolen bases, and 79 RBIs over 101 games last season.

The Dominican native was the Yankees' top-ranked prospect in 2019. Florial signed as an international free agent in 2015.

Morris registered a 6.75 ERA with nine strikeouts in six relief appearances for the Guardians last season. The 27-year-old owns a career 1-2 record with a 3.41 ERA and 32 strikeouts across 31 2/3 innings.
