Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich understands how important manager Craig Counsell is to the club's consistency and success.
The Brewers have qualified for the playoffs in five of the past six seasons, and Yelich believes Counsell deserves a lot of the credit.
"A lot of it is culture, knowing what you need to do to win and obviously having talented players as well," Yelich told Sportskeeda's John Perrotto.
"Obviously having a lot of talented players helps as well, but I think a lot of the culture starts with Couns from the first day of spring training. Kind of just knowing what needs to be done and what we need to do to be consistently successful. Couns sets the tone."
Counsell's contract with the Brewers is to set expire on Oct. 31 and the club reportedly granted the 53-year-old permission to interview for the New York Mets' managerial opening.
Counsell owns a 707-625 record with the Brewers since taking over in the early portion of the 2015 season.
Yelich has enjoyed the most productive seasons of his career, including winning NL MVP in 2018, while playing for Counsell after he was acquired in a trade with the Miami Marlins.
The Mets are looking for a new manager after firing Buck Showalter on the final day of the regular season.
Counsell and new Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns worked together with the Brewers from 2015 until Stearns stepped down from the same position in Milwaukee at the conclusion of the 2022 campaign.
