Cora tells Red Sox he isn't ready for front-office role

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora is content to remain in his current role.

Cora said Sunday he recently told ownership he wasn't ready to be considered for a front-office role within the organization.

"I'm not ready to do that. If I felt like yeah, I think I can do that job, I'd probably tell them, 'Hey, I would like to be part of the candidates.' But I'm not ready for that," Cora said, according to MassLive's Christopher Smith.

Cora added that he'll be part of the brain trust involved in the process of hiring the next head of baseball operations for the franchise.

The Red Sox fired Chaim Bloom as chief baseball officer Sept. 14 after nearly four seasons at the helm.

Cora is completing his fifth season as Red Sox manager. He led the club to a World Series title in 2018 and an ALCS appearance in 2021. The 47-year-old owns a career 439-370 record as Red Sox skipper.
