Thompson signed a minor league contract Tuesday with the Mets and will be assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas, ESPN New York reports.
Thompson has not appeared in any discernible minor league since June 1, 2012, when he was released by the Twins from his contract with Triple-A Rochester. In nine starts at the affiliate, he put up a 1-5 record, 4.71 ERA, 1.714 WHIP, and 30:25 K:BB ratio in 42 innings. He appears poised to provide organizational depth as a long reliever, at the very least.
