We started this week the same way we ended last: with a perfect 3-0 card.
Let's waste no time getting to our best bets for Tuesday night as we look to stay hot.
Marlins (+150) @ Padres (-175)
Jesus Luzardo was one of the best, and most consistent, pitchers in the league for a large chunk of the season. That's no longer the case.
The wheels have completely fallen off for Luzardo of late, with the talented lefty getting shredded consistently over the past month.
Luzardo has conceded 30 hits and 20 runs over his past four starts, over which time he's completed only 17 innings.
The numbers suggest those kinds of outings are well-deserved. His ball rate is on the rise, and opposing teams have been able to square up on his pitches over the zone.
Luzardo has posted a 14.3% barrel rate and .440 xwOBA over his last four starts. The league averages over the same period are 8.2% and .323, respectively.
His profile is littered with more red flags than the likes of Noah Syndergaard and Adam Wainwright, which should tell you all you need to know about how Luzardo is performing.
Making matters worse is that the Padres are feasting on lefties right now. They've managed a .366 xwOBA versus left-handed pitching since July 22, which is the third-highest mark in the majors.
San Diego also owns the third-highest barrel rate, placing the team behind only the Braves and Twins.
With Blake Snell - who's conceded two runs or fewer in 15 of his past 16 starts - on the mound, the Padres should be confident the Marlins will struggle to keep up.
Look for San Diego to lead through five innings.
Bet: Padres F5 -0.5 (-115)
Graham Ashcraft under 1.5 walks
Ashcraft has struggled with walks this season, but there's reason to believe he's turning a corner.
Only 32.4% of his pitches over the past month have been balls, which is well below the league average and the third-best rate among Tuesday's projected starters. Ashcraft's control is improving, and the walks should come down.
The matchup is also as good as it gets. The Angels have been free swingers for what feels like forever, throwing caution to the wind in every at-bat.
They have a 54.9% swing rate versus righties in August. That's the highest mark in the MLB and a full 7% clear of the average.
Unsurprisingly, that's neutered their ability to draw walks. They've walked 4.4% of the time against right-handed pitchers this month, good for dead last.
Taking things a step further, 12 of the past 13 opposing right-handers have walked one Angel or fewer.
With Los Angeles swinging for the fences on seemingly every pitch, and Ashcraft's control improving drastically, he should be able to limit the free passes in this one.
Odds: +115 (playable to -120)
Mookie Betts over 1.5 total bases
The Guardians hoped a change of scenery for Syndergaard would serve him well, but that's yet to come to fruition.
Syndergaard has conceded six homers, 12 earned runs, and 25 hits through just 21 innings over four starts with his new club. Not great.
Over the last month, Syndergaard's pitches have earned him a "Stuff+" rating of 56, according to JonPGH's MLB dashboard.
A lethal Dodgers offense should be able to get to him early and often Tuesday night, and Betts figures to be at the forefront of it.
Through 146 at-bats versus pitchers with "Stuff+" ratings of 60 or lower, Betts is hitting .331 with 11 homers, a barrel rate of nearly 20%, and an astronomical .471 xwOBA.
He's absolutely shredded pitch-to-contact arms that lack overpowering stuff, and I expect no different against Syndergaard.
Odds: -130 (playable to -140)
