Red Sox, Refsnyder agree to 1-year extension through 2024

The Boston Red Sox and outfielder Rob Refsnyder agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2024 season that includes a team option for the 2025 campaign.

"Lot of ups and downs in this game," Refsnyder said during his press conference, according to the Associated Press. "I just sit here super humble, super grateful. I've had this game almost taken away from me a couple of times just based on performance."

Refsnyder is playing his second year in Boston, hitting .284/.408/.383 with one homer and two steals over 33 games. In 90 total contests with the Red Sox, he possesses a 139 wRC+.

"The body of work since he's put on our uniform speaks for itself," chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom added. "Not everybody is able to show that consistency when the playing time isn't consistent."

The 32-year-old was entering his final offseason of arbitration eligibility, and he would've been able to test free agency for the first time following the 2024 season.

An eight-year veteran, Refsnyder has bounced around the league before finding success with the Red Sox. He originally broke into the majors with the division-rival New York Yankees and has also done stints with the Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, and Minnesota Twins.
