Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux was carted off the field during Monday's game against the San Diego Padres with a knee injury.

Lux is scheduled to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Lux told him he felt a "pop" in the outer half of his knee, according to MLB.com's Juan Toribio. While an exact diagnosis is still unknown, a source told ESPN's Buster Olney on Tuesday that Lux's injury is "bad" and will keep him off the field for "a long time."
"Obviously, a guy that you're expected to start at shortstop, for him to miss any time is not good," Roberts said. "I don't want to jump to any conclusions yet until we get the testing results, but it's really unfortunate because Gavin has done a lot to get ready for this spring and this season."
Lux was expected to take over as the club's starting shortstop after Trea Turner joined the Philadelphia Phillies in free agency.
The Dodgers have Miguel Rojas as another option at shortstop should Lux miss time. Rojas made 140 appearances at shortstop for the Miami Marlins last season.
Lux is entering his fifth MLB season. The 25-year-old enjoyed a breakout season for the Dodgers in 2022, setting career highs in games played, batting average, runs scored, and OPS.
