The Seattle Mariners bolstered their outfield depth, signing veteran Kole Calhoun to a minor-league contract, according to Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports.
The pact is pending a physical.
"You're not going to find a better clubhouse guy," Mariners general Jerry Dipoto said Thursday of Calhoun, according to Maura Dooley of Seattle Sports.
"He's got that fiery competitor in him that stands out and rubs off on other guys. Plus, really good defensive outfielder who can really throw with a history of hitting right-handed pitching."
Calhoun joins the third American League West club of his career. The 35-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Angels from 2012-19. Calhoun then spent two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks before joining the Texas Rangers in 2022.
He will provide Mariners manager Scott Servais with another outfield option behind Julio Rodriguez, Teoscar Hernandez, AJ Pollock, and Jarred Kelenic.
Calhoun struggled mightily for the Rangers in 2022. He posted a career-worst .587 OPS with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs across 125 games.
Calhoun is a career .243 hitter with 173 home runs and 557 RBIs over 11 big-league seasons. His best season came in 2019 with the Angels when he belted a career-high 33 home runs in 152 games.
