Mets' Lugo wants Braves in playoffs: 'I think we're better'

Despite being overtaken by the Atlanta Braves for top spot in the NL East, New York Mets reliever Seth Lugo still believes New York is the superior club.

"I think we're better than those guys, and I think we'll prove it if we face them again," Lugo told the New York Post's Mike Puma on Monday.

The Braves' magic number to clinch their fifth straight division title is down to one after they made an emphatic statement with a three-game sweep of the Mets over the weekend.

Although they look destined to play in the best of three wild-card series, Lugo believes that might help keep the Mets in a good rhythm.

"We're used to playing every day," Lugo said. "We had talked about having four or five days off and how strange that would be during the season. You do that during the All-Star break, but toward the end of the season, it's not natural."

The earliest the Mets and Braves would likely be able to square off in the postseason is the NLCS. Lugo is hoping the Mets get an opportunity to prove they are the better team.

"I would like another shot," Lugo said. "At the same time, whoever is the opponent, you want to face the best."
