The St. Louis Cardinals signed reliever Giovanny Gallegos to a two-year contract extension with a club option for the 2025 season, the team announced Monday.

The deal covers Gallegos' final two seasons of arbitration eligibility. The 31-year-old signed a one-year, $2.41-million contract to avoid arbitration before the campaign.

Gallegos has emerged as a dependable option in the Cardinals bullpen. The right-hander owns a 3-5 record with a 2.91 ERA, 14 saves, and 72 strikeouts across 58 2/3 innings this season.

The Cardinals acquired Gallegos in a trade with the New York Yankees in 2018. He owns a 2.79 ERA with 283 strikeouts in 229 1/3 innings across parts of five campaigns with St. Louis.
