Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Noah Syndergaard is content with how his tenure as a member of the New York Mets ended.

"I have no regrets," Syndergaard said Friday, according to the New York Post's Zach Braziller. "It's led me to where I am now."

Syndergaard rejected New York's qualifying offer in the offseason before joining the Los Angeles Angels on a one-year, $21-million contract.

The hurler explained the rationale behind the decision and his belief that he needed to start a new chapter in his career after six seasons with the Mets.

"That energy that can make New York so great and positive can also bite you in the butt a little bit, especially with what I'm going through now," Syndergaard said.

"I felt like if I was doing that playing here, everything would be highlighted. That was a big fear of mine."

Syndergaard has struggled to recapture his velocity in 2022 after missing nearly two campaigns following Tommy John surgery in 2020.

The 29-year-old also acknowledged that uncertainty within the organization during the offseason - as the Mets searched for a new general manager before hiring Billy Eppler - contributed to his decision to look elsewhere.

Although he finds himself back in the NL East with the Phillies, Syndergaard remains supportive of his former Mets teammates.

"It's been great witnessing their success from a distance," Syndergaard said. "I'm still rooting for those guys from the other side."
