Kansas City Royals reliever Amir Garrett was rattled by a heckler against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field Tuesday night and has now apologized for throwing his drink at the fan.

"I owe the fan from last night's incident an apology," Garrett said via his Twitter account on Wednesday. "I realize my actions were uncalled for and that as players we are held to a higher standard and the chirping from fans is a part of today's game. I hope he can forgive me.

"With that being said, I'm a human that makes mistakes. I will continue to grow and learn from any and all mistakes I make and appreciate everyone's support while doing so.

"Again, I sincerely apologize to last night's fan and all fans who were around. This is a beautiful game that we share, as fans and as players. Let's continue to cherish our beautiful game together."

Garrett was asked to finish the game for the Royals, allowing two walks in an otherwise clean eighth inning as part of a 9-2 loss to the division-rival White Sox. Tim Anderson led off the inning with a lineout followed by walks to Andrew Vaughn and Eloy Jimenez before Garrett got the final two outs on a double play from Jose Abreu.

It's been a challenging year for the 30-year-old lefty, who's posted a 5.27 ERA and 3.92 FIP over 27 1/3 innings in 35 appearances.
