Report: Blue Jays sign Romo to major-league deal

The Toronto Blue Jays are signing veteran right-hander Sergio Romo to a major-league deal, sources told the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Romo began the season with the Seattle Mariners but was released June 22 after struggling mightily. The 39-year-old owns an 8.16 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings in 2022.

The hurler is a veteran of 15 MLB seasons and helped the San Francisco Giants to three World Series titles. He's also made stops with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, and Oakland Athletics.

Romo will look to provide a struggling Blue Jays bullpen with another proven commodity. Toronto's relievers rank 23rd in MLB in ERA, 20th in K/9, and 23rd in FanGraphs' WAR.

In 815 career appearances, Romo is 42-35 with a 3.20 ERA and 786 strikeouts in 719 innings.
