New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino has been one of baseball's most pleasant surprises this year, and teammate Aaron Judge and manager Aaron Boone say he deserves his first All-Star appearance.

"I hope he gets that nod to be the starting catcher," Judge said Wednesday, according to NJ.com's Brendan Kuty.

Trevino authored another impressive moment during Wednesday's game, belting a go-ahead two-run homer in the Yankees' 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Judge also pointed to Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk as another deserving All-Star candidate but said Trevino earned the recognition.

"I know there's a lot of great catchers out there in the league," Judge said. "Especially when we got done facing Alejandro Kirk with the Blue Jays, another great one in this league. But I think (Trevino) definitely deserves it. He's worked his butt off for this opportunity, and he's taking full advantage of it."

In his first season with the Yankees, Trevino sits second to Kirk in FanGraphs' WAR (2.0) among American League catchers and owns a .283/.339/.478 slash line with six home runs, 21 RBIs, and a 134 wRC+.

"He should be in the All-Star Game," Boone said. "He's playing that well. You could say he should be in the All-Star Game because of his offense, and that doesn't even start on the other side of the ball where he's as good as it gets."

Although he's excited by the prospect of his first All-Star appearance, Trevino said he's most focused on helping New York win its first championship since 2009.

"If it happens, it happens," Trevino said. "I want to win a championship. That's pretty individualized, an All-Star Game. That would be pretty cool. But I want to win a championship. That's what I'm here for."
