The St. Louis Cardinals will be without the services of a couple key contributors for an undetermined period of time.

Left-hander Steven Matz was placed on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder impingement, while outfielder Dylan Carlson was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, the club announced on Monday.

Matz, 30, departed his start on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates after just four pitches with what the team initially called shoulder stiffness.

Matz was off to a tough start this campaign, posting a 3-3 record with a 6.03 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings.

The hurler is in the first season of a four-year, $44-million contract inked during the offseason.

Carlson left Saturday's game after pulling up lame on a fly ball out in the third inning.

The 23-year-old was struggling to start 2022 after a breakout year last season. Carlson is slashing just .247/.291/.363 with a pair of home runs and 11 RBIs across 39 games.

The Cardinals also recalled pitchers Junior Fernandez and Matthew Liberatore as well as outfielder Lars Nootbaar from Triple-A Memphis.
