New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom remains without a timetable to resume mound work after he underwent follow-up imaging on his shoulder Monday, the team announced Tuesday.
However, the MRI and CT scan - which were the third tests performed on deGrom's right scapula since he was originally shut down just before Opening Day - confirmed that the two-time Cy Young winner's scapula is showing continued healing.
DeGrom will continue his throwing program on flat ground, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Once he's given clearance to throw off a mound, it's expected he'll require three-to-five rehab starts.
The 33-year-old has been one of the best starters in baseball since winning NL Rookie of the Year in 2014. The right-hander is 77-53 for his career with a 2.50 ERA and 2.64 FIP over 198 starts.
Despite being without their ace, the Mets are currently tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the best record in the Senior Circuit at 23-13. New York's pitching staff has been led by Max Scherzer, Carlos Carrasco, Chris Bassitt, and a breakout performance from Tylor Megill, who's now also sidelined with biceps inflammation.
