The New York Mets were extremely busy upgrading their roster before the MLB lockout began, and it could lead to them shopping a few of their returning players.

New York is willing to listen to trade offers for J.D. Davis, Dominic Smith, and Jeff McNeil, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

The additions of Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar in free agency created a logjam of position players on the Mets' roster.

The 28-year-old Davis appeared in only 73 games in 2021, hitting .285/.384/.436 with five homers. Davis underwent surgery in October to repair a torn ligament in his left hand. He is arbitration-eligible and projected to earn $2.7 million this season.

Smith, 26, appeared in a career-high 145 games last season for the Mets, hitting .244/.304/.363 with 11 home runs. The first baseman/outfielder is also arbitration-eligible and projected to earn $4 million in 2022.

McNeil had a rocky 2021 in New York, which included a confrontation with teammate Francisco Lindor during a game. His on-field performance dipped as well, with the 29-year-old posting a career-worst 0.5 fWAR while hitting .251/.319/.360 with seven homers in 120 games. McNeil projects to earn $2.8 million in arbitration.

Despite signing Max Scherzer, the Mets are still looking at improving their rotation, with free-agent left-hander Yusei Kikuchi a possibility, Martino adds.

Adding another bullpen arm or two is also likely, according to Martino.

New York wasn't on a list of reported teams interested in Japanese outfielder Seiya Suzuki, but a team source told Martino that the club could pursue the 27-year-old.

After their spending spree before the lockout began, the Mets appear unlikely to contend for Carlos Correa or Kris Bryant, with Martino reporting the team hasn't seriously considered either player since November.
