Blue Jays' Borucki gets 3-game ban for intentionally hitting Kiermaier
Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Ryan Borucki has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for hitting Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier with a pitch during Wednesday's game, the league announced, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.
The league determined he intentionally threw at Kiermaier.
Borucki is appealing the suspension and will remain on the active roster.
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo received a one-game suspension earlier on Thursday, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
Montoyo's suspension was automatic due to the incident. Borucki was ejected following the possible act of retaliation after Kiermaier swiped a dropped scouting card Monday.
Bench coach John Schneider will serve as acting manager in Montoyo's absence when the Blue Jays face the Twins on Thursday night.
Borucki claimed postgame that the ball slipped as he was trying to throw down and away from Kiermaier.
Kiermaier wasn't buying it and called the hit-by-pitch "weak." He added he hopes the Rays and Blue Jays, who won't see each other again this regular season, face off in the playoffs.
