Angels' Maddon: Trout unlikely to play again this season
Trout is with the team in Chicago as the club continues its series against the White Sox and is working out with hopes of a late-season return, but his skipper is concerned there aren't enough days remaining.
The Angels are 70-74, currently in fourth place in the AL West, and will be watching the postseason from home for the seventh consecutive year. With 18 games remaining - including Wednesday - a Trout return becomes less likely by the day.
The 30-year-old was placed on the 10-day IL on May 18 with a calf strain and was expected to miss six-to-eight weeks. That timeline didn't hold up and a setback in late August further put his season in doubt.
Trout was batting .333/.466/.624 with eight home runs in 36 games prior to the injury and was on pace for one of the best offensive seasons of his career.
