The Minnesota Twins are sending left-handed starter J.A. Happ to the St. Louis Cardinals for right-hander John Gant and minor-league lefty Evan Sisk, the team announced Friday.

Happ, 38, signed a one-year, $8-million deal with the Twins this past winter. The veteran has struggled this season, authoring a 6.77 ERA and 5.40 FIP over 98 1/3 innings while making 19 starts for the last-place Twins.

The former All-Star joins a beleaguered Cardinals rotation as Jack Flaherty, Miles Mikolas, Carlos Martinez, and Dakota Hudson are all sidelined.

In exchange, the Twins will receive versatile right-hander Gant. He's made 14 starts and 11 relief appearances this year, posting a 3.42 ERA and 5.11 FIP over 76 1/3 innings.

Minnesota is also adding Sisk. The 24-year-old has worked exclusively as a reliever at two minor-league levels this year and owns a 3.31 ERA in 26 appearances across the High-A and Double-A levels.
