Castellanos has microfracture in wrist

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos was diagnosed with a microfracture after undergoing a CT scan on his ailing right wrist.

"I have a microfracture in my wrist that I'm dealing with," he told Chris Rose of Jomboy Media. "So I have to rest it. I'm going to take a couple of days to see where I'm at."

Castellanos suffered the injury July 16 when he was hit by a pitch while facing the Milwaukee Brewers. He took one at-bat Monday in an extra-innings loss to the New York Mets but has otherwise been stuck on the bench.

"I'm probably 50%," said Castellanos, who acknowledged he's been unable to swing a bat. "I was trying for a couple of days just to play through it and, really, honestly, see where I was at. But I was maybe 50%."

Castellanos avoided the IL in the immediate aftermath of the injury because the initial X-ray showed no fractures. The 29-year-old has been dynamite this season, slashing .329/.383/.582 with 18 homers and 59 RBIs for a Reds team that sits second in the NL Central.

"If anybody can pop my wrist off and just pop it back in, I think it'd feel better," the All-Star outfielder said.

Cincinnati has lost five of six games since Castellanos was plunked and left early versus the division-leading Brewers.
