The New York Yankees designated struggling first baseman Mike Ford for assignment, the team announced Saturday.

In a corresponding move, the Yankees reinstated left-handed reliever Zack Britton from the 60-day injured list after missing the entire 2021 campaign so far with an elbow injury.

Ford, 28, was a breakout star for the 2019 first-place team, hitting .259/.350/.559 with 12 homers over 50 games while filling in for injuries to Giancarlo Stanton, Luke Voit, and Miguel Andujar, among others. He was optioned to the minor leagues earlier this month.

Since that 2019 campaign, though, the first baseman has hit .134/.250/.276 with five home runs in 51 contests.

Everything seemed to go right for the club two seasons ago as they breezed to 103 wins, thanks in part to the breakouts of Ford, Mike Tauchman, and Gio Urshela. However, the 2021 team has struggled to a 33-30 record and parted ways with Tauchman earlier this year.
