The Los Angeles Dodgers placed starting pitcher Dustin May on the 10-day injured list with a right arm injury, the team announced Sunday.

May's start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday came to an abrupt end after the Dodgers righty winced following a pitch, immediately signaled to the dugout, and was promptly lifted from the game.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said postgame that May felt a "shooting sensation" in his arm, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. The right-hander will receive an MRI on Monday when the team arrives in Chicago.

May made it into the second inning, throwing 27 pitches and retiring five hitters before turning it over to left-hander Garrett Cleavinger. The flamethrower had allowed one run on one hit while striking out three.

The 23-year-old was in the midst of a breakout campaign after long being heralded as a top pitching prospect in the Dodgers' system. May has authored a 2.74 ERA and 3.07 FIP in 23 innings across five starts, including his contributions against the Brewers on Saturday.

Los Angeles is dealing with several injuries, notably relying on a bullpen game on Friday vs. the Brewers. David Price, Corey Knebel, Brusdar Graterol, and Joe Kelly are among the club's sidelined pitchers.

The club purchased the contract of left-hander Mike Kickham and transferred Knebel to the 60-day IL in corresponding moves.
