The Houston Astros and veteran catcher Martin Maldonado agreed to a one-year contract extension that will keep him in Houston at least through the 2022 season, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Maldonado, 34, has spent the last season and a half with the Astros after being reacquired from the Chicago Cubs during the 2019 campaign. Maldonado was also a member of the 2018 club for the second half of the season. Over 123 games with the franchise, the catcher has hit .206/.297/.379 with 16 homers.
Financial details of the deal are not yet known.
Through Maldonado's 11-year career, he's authored a .644 OPS while winning the 2017 Gold Glove as a member of the Los Angeles Angels.
