Angels, Fletcher agree to 5-year extension
The Los Angeles Angels and infielder David Fletcher agreed to a five-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday.
Fletcher could ultimately earn $41 million over seven seasons if two club options are exercised, a source told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Year | Salary |
---|---|
2021 | $2M |
2022 | $4M |
2023 | $6M |
2024 | $6M |
2025 | $6.5 |
2026 | $8M option ($1.5M buyout) |
2027 | $8.5M option ($1.5M< buyout) |
The extension covers his arbitration years and ensures Fletcher won't hit free agency after the 2024 season.
The 26-year-old has been a key piece of the Angels' lineup since his debut in 2018. He hasn't displayed much power, but he hit .319/.376/.425 in 49 games last season, struck out only 25 times in 230 plate appearances, and earned downballot MVP votes.
He also offers significant defensive versatility. Since his rookie campaign, he's taken reps at third base, second, shortstop, and both corner outfield spots.
