Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster Bob Brenly is apologizing to New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman for commenting on his do-rag during Tuesday's game.

"During last night's game, I made a poor attempt at humor that was insensitive and wrong," Brenly said in a statement. "I apologize to Marcus Stroman and have reached out directly to share those thoughts.

"I have had several conversations with the D-Backs and we agree that seeking sensitivity training is an important step so that I can continue to learn from my mistakes in order to be better in the future."

During Tuesday's broadcast, with Stroman on the screen, Brenly remarked he was "pretty sure that's the same do-rag that Tom Seaver used to wear when he pitched for the Mets."

The team is currently honoring Seaver, who died in August, with a sleeve patch featuring his No. 41.

Stroman took to Twitter postgame upon learning of Brenly's quip, retweeting others who deemed the remark racist, and he pledged to continue "onward and upward."

Mets manager Luis Rojas also expressed his disappointment with Brenly's comment.

"First of all, I'm disappointed immediately," Rojas said Wednesday, according to SNY.

"It's just very inappropriate," he added. "I was very disappointed when I heard it. If it was like a joke or something, I didn't get it. And I know a lot of people didn't get it."
