The Detroit Tigers and right-handed starter Julio Teheran have agreed to a minor-league deal, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Teheran will earn $3 million if he makes the team, plus an extra $1 million if he starts 20 contests, Heyman notes.
The 30-year-old Teheran is coming off a tough 2020 with the Los Angeles Angels. He went 0-4 with a 10.05 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 31 1/3 innings of work.
Prior to that, Teheran spent nine seasons with the Atlanta Braves, where he earned All-Star appearances in 2014 and 2016. He recorded a 3.67 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 1,360 innings with Atlanta.
The Tigers have plenty of rotation options with Teheran entering the fold. Matthew Boyd, Spencer Turnbull, Michael Fulmer, Jose Urena, Casey Mize, and Tarik Skubal - among others - could all be in line to start games in 2021.
Detroit had also reportedly been considering a reunion with veteran righty Rick Porcello. However, Teheran's signing likely rules that out, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com.
