The Toronto Blue Jays signed right-hander Tyler Chatwood to a one-year, $3-million contract, a source told Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. The deal can reach $5.5 million through incentives.
Though he's spent the bulk of his career as a starting pitcher, the Blue Jays plan to primarily use Chatwood out of the bullpen, Davidi notes.
Chatwood, 31, has spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Cubs. He went 2-2 with a 5.30 ERA over five starts in 2020. Altogether, he went 11-11 with a 4.70 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and 8.3 K/9 in 67 games (30 starts) with Chicago.
He joined the Cubs on a three-year, $38-million contract after spending five seasons with the Colorado Rockies.
