Yadi could 'retire happy' if contract offers fail to impress
There's a chance Yadier Molina has played his last game in Major League Baseball.
The longtime St. Louis Cardinals catcher is still a free agent and said he could hang up his cleats if he doesn't get a contract offer to his liking.
"If God wants me to come back, then I’ll come back," Molina said in a Spanish-language interview with broadcaster Polo Ascensio, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "And if not I will retire happy with my head held high."
Molina, 38, wants to return to St. Louis, preferably on a two-year contract, but he isn't willing to take a hometown discount. Similarly, the Cardinals have expressed an interest in retaining his services, but no deal has been reached.
The nine-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner has played his entire 17-year career with the Cardinals since making his major-league debut in 2004. At one point he was viewed primarily as a glove-first player, but has been an effective hitter for much of his career, batting .281/.333/.404 in 2,025 games.
