A Mickey Mantle baseball card has sold for $5.2 million, setting a new record for trading cards, PWCC marketplace announced, according to Dan Hajducky of ESPN.

This dwarfs the previous record set by a Mike Trout rookie card when it sold for $3.94 million in August.

The 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 9 card is believed to be one of only nine in existence and was purchased by actor and entrepreneur Rob Gough.

"The 1952 Topps Mantle is the holy grail of sports cards," Gough said. "As a kid ripping packs in the '90s, I always dreamt of owning one ... I felt this Mantle was highly underpriced."

The card was previously sold in 2018 for $2.8 million and is considered to be the best of its kind.

"Based on our research, this is the nicest looking 1952 Topps Mantle PSA 9 in existence," said Jesse Craig, director of business development at PWCC Marketplace, according to Mike Oz of Yahoo Sports.
