Astros sign Stanek to 1-year contract reportedly worth $1.1M
The Houston Astros signed right-handed reliever Ryne Stanek to a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday.
The deal will be worth $1.1 million, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Stanek allowed eight earned runs over 10 innings for the Miami Marlins in 2020. Prior to joining the Marlins in a midseason trade in 2019, he served as an effective reliever and opener for the Tampa Bay Rays.
He posted a 2.98 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 66 1/3 innings in 2018 with the Rays, making 29 appearances as an opener. He served in that role even more frequently in 2019 with the Rays, registering a 3.40 ERA in 41 games (27 opens).
Stanek joins an Astros bullpen that features Ryan Pressly as its closer with Enoli Paredes, Blake Taylor, and Joe Smith among other arms.
