The San Francisco Giants signed right-hander Anthony DeSclafani to a one-year deal, the club announced Wednesday.
The pact is worth $6 million, and DeSclafani can earn an additional $250,000 through a performance bonus tied to how many innings he pitches, according to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic.
The 30-year-old is coming off a rough 2020 campaign when he posted a 7.22 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 33 2/3 innings with the Cincinnati Reds after opening the season on the IL with a pectoral injury.
But he became a solid mid-rotation arm in 2019, posting a 9-9 record with a 3.89 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 167 strikeouts in 166 2/3 innings.
DeSclafani joins a Giants rotation that currently features Kevin Gausman, Johnny Cueto, and Logan Webb among its options.
San Francisco may not be done. The Giants have also been linked to reigning NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer and Japanese right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano, as well as Brad Hand and Liam Hendriks for their bullpen.
