Report: White Sox have sights set on Hendriks

The Chicago White Sox are interested in pursuing free-agent closer Liam Hendriks, according to Robert Murray of Fansided.

Hendriks has spent the last five seasons with the Oakland Athletics and is coming off a pair of electric seasons as the bullpen's anchor. The 31-year-old owns a 1.79 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 13.1 K/9 while recording 39 saves since the beginning of 2019.

The White Sox have been one of the busier teams in MLB over the last week. After acquiring right-hander Lance Lynn from the Texas Rangers and signing outfielder Adam Eaton to a one-year, $8-million contract, the club has now set its sights on the top closer on the open market.

Chicago deployed Alex Colome, who is also a free agent, in the ninth inning last season. The White Sox are looking to fill that void, but the bullpen isn't in bad shape.

Aaron Bummer, Evan Marshall, and Codi Heuer would all be internal options to serve as closer if the team doesn't add someone like Hendriks, and starter Reynaldo Lopez could be destined for relief duties now that Lynn has joined the rotation.
