The San Francisco Giants are looking to add one more starting pitcher this offseason and have targeted veteran left-hander Jon Lester, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Lester, 36, spent the last six seasons with the Chicago Cubs after signing a six-year, $155-million contract ahead of the 2015 campaign. The five-time All-Star seriously considered signing with the Giants before ultimately landing in Chicago, Morosi notes.

Though his 5.16 ERA over 12 starts in 2020 wasn't great, Lester was otherwise consistent over his Cubs tenure. He went 77-44 with a 3.64 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 940 strikeouts in 1,002 2/3 innings across 171 starts with the North Siders.

The Giants recently retained the services of right-hander Kevin Gausman, who accepted an $18.9-million qualifying offer for the 2021 season. Behind Gausman, San Francisco has Johnny Cueto, Tyler Anderson, Logan Webb, and Andrew Suarez penciled in as likely rotation options.
