The Chicago Cubs are bringing back right-handed reliever Pedro Strop, sources told Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
Strop, 35, will apparently report to the Cubs' alternate training site in South Bend, Indiana.
The Chicago White Sox also expressed interest in Strop, Rogers adds.
The Cincinnati Reds released the right-hander earlier this week after giving him a one-year, $1.825-million contract this past winter. Strop allowed three runs - one earned - on one hit and six walks while striking out three over 2 1/3 innings with the Reds. He hasn't pitched since Aug. 7 after suffering a groin strain.
Strop played for the Cubs from the middle of the 2013 season until the end of 2019. He authored a 2.90 ERA and 3.19 FIP during that time while also collecting 29 saves, serving as the team's closer for portions of the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.
