The Milwaukee Brewers designated veteran Justin Smoak for assignment and claimed first baseman Daniel Vogelbach off waivers, the team announced Thursday.

Smoak signed a one-year, $5-million deal with the Brewers in December. The veteran slugger has a .186/.262/.381 slash line with five homers and 15 RBIs after 113 at-bats. His average, OBP, and slugging are well below his career averages of .229/.322/.419.
Vogelbach was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Toronto Blue Jays on Aug. 24 and designated for assignment by the Jays on Tuesday.
In just 57 at-bats, the 27-year-old is hitting .088/.246/.211 with two home runs and 12 walks.
