Remainder of Reds-Pirates series postponed due to positive COVID-19 test

The remaining two games of the weekend series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds have been postponed after a Cincinnati player tested positive for COVID-19, the league announced Saturday in a statement obtained by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Major League Baseball has decided to push back Saturday's and Sunday's games to "allow for additional testing and to complete the contact tracing process," according to the statement.

The Reds and Pirates could make up the lost games in a doubleheader Monday because both teams were scheduled to have an off day, a source told Bobby Nightengale and John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Cincinnati is set to open a two-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

The Reds are then supposed to travel to St. Louis to face the Cardinals in a four-game series. The Cardinals are returning to action Saturday following a coronavirus outbreak that has kept them from playing since July 29. St. Louis will attempt to play 55 games in 43 days in order to compensate for its hiatus, but Cincinnati's positive test could potentially compromise that timeline.
