Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced left-hander Clayton Kershaw will make his season debut Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

Kershaw was initially pegged to start the Dodgers' season opener against the San Francisco Giants but landed on the 10-day IL with back stiffness after suffering an injury in the weight room.

"Clayton is champing at the bit," Roberts said of his eager southpaw.

The three-time NL Cy Young winner has remained effective on the mound, though not as dominant as he once was. In 2019, he went 16-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 178 1/3 innings.

Right-hander Walker Buehler will follow Kershaw in the rotation.
