Dr. Fauci baseball card sets new record for Topps

Dr. Anthony Fauci may never live down his embarrassing first pitch on Opening Day, but his Topps baseball card proved to be a big hit among fans.

Topps announced Monday it sold more than 51,000 copies of the limited-edition Topps Now card, setting a new record for the company. Topps Now cards are only available for 24 hours online.

The previous Topps Now record was set by a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. card that sold 19,306 copies, according to Darren Rovell of Action Network.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, threw the ceremonial first pitch prior to the July 23 game between the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals. He blamed the bad pitch on the fact he "completely destroyed" his arm two days earlier while playing catch for the first time in decades.
