The Kansas City Royals have acquired outfielder Franchy Cordero and right-hander Ronald Bolanos from the San Diego Padres in exchange for left-handed reliever Tim Hill.

Cordero, 25, has played 79 games at the major-league level since getting called up during the 2017 season. The outfielder owns a .240/.306/.431 slash line with 10 homers and seven steals over that time.

Bolanos made his MLB debut this past season. The 23-year-old made five appearances, including three starts, authoring a 5.95 ERA and 5.25 FIP over 19 2/3 innings. Prior to his promotion, Bolanos held a 4.23 ERA and 3.91 FIP over 15 games with Double-A Amarillo.

"We're very encouraged with (Seuly) Matias and Khalil Lee and (Kyle) Isbel," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said according to Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com. "But to add a guy like Cordero for our future, it made a lot sense."

Heading back to the Padres is Hill, a 30-year-old lefty. In 85 1/3 frames over the past two seasons, Hill has posted a 4.11 ERA and 3.67 FIP while frequently being used as a lefty specialist. MLB installed a new three-batter minimum rule for this season.
