The Oakland Athletics have traded middle-infield prospect Jorge Mateo to the San Diego Padres in exchange for a player to be named later, the team announced Tuesday.
Oakland originally acquired Mateo from the New York Yankees along with outfielder Dustin Fowler and right-handed pitcher James Kaprielian in the Sonny Gray trade midway through the 2017 season.
Mateo authored a .289/.330/.504 slash line with 19 homers and 24 stolen bases over 119 Triple-A games last year. The 25-year-old was on the Athletics' 60-man roster.
Entering 2018, Mateo was considered the No. 72 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, and ranked as highly as No. 30 prior to the 2016 season.
